Kowtow‘s new collection for Spring/Summer 2021 arrives in stores and online today and draws inspiration from the spirit of adventure. Creative director Gosia Piatek looked to early explorers and pioneers such as Jeanne Baret, Bessie Coleman, Amelia Earhart and Beryl Markham and wanted the collection to bestow the wearer with the same gusto and courage as those adventurous women.

A perfect place to start an adventure is with a map and Kowtow looked to map grid lines and constellations used to help navigate travellers to create their red mini check and observer print. The detailed infinity print encourages limitless exploration with its geometric precision and is a hero print of the season. This season’s colour palette also draws on the wonders to be found in nature with olive, indigo, pale blue, mahogany and marigold among the featured hues.

The brand have long enjoyed drawing inspiration from art and looked to the work of Bauhaus textile designer, Gunta Stölzl, when creating the palette print, which cleverly ties together all the colours from the collection. While the fluidity of the beautiful mahogany tencel pieces references the expressionist sculptures by Richard Serra. The basket stitch which features on Kowtow’s new knitwear is a homage to the traditional rattan furniture of Clara Porset.

Kowtow have also developed a new textile in certified Fairtrade organic cotton with ripstop fabric. The tight weave creates a checkered pattern by using a special reinforcing technique which makes it resistant to ripping. It’s a fabric quality commonly used in outerwear, such as hiking and sailing and works perfectly with Kowtow’s inspiration this season. As always, this collection was manufactured to the highest ethical standards offering sustainable garments that are modern, inclusive and made to last.
